Melvin Edmondson
Like John Legend I was born in Springfield, Ohio and am now living in Germany since 34 years. As a well-bred, refined singer I have appeared in such musicals as “the Buddy Holly Story”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Little Shop of Horror” and “Dirty Dancing”. Since my first professional engagement as background singer for Harry Belafonte in the 70’s I have been busy learning, singing and performing other music directions from Jazz over to Blues to Rock-Pop and Gospel. My work as one of the Adult Choir Singers on the film musical “The Wiz” with Quincy Jones (musical-director) starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross and the six month stage musical experience on the side of Rock Hudson in “On The Twentieth Century” were also important enrichments for my musical and professional career.
2003 I recorded Perry Como’s hit single “Magic Moments” for a Jacobs-Kroenung Coffee Christmas Commercial. The Commercial ran in the German TV Christmas Seasons 2003 and 2004. Soon thereafter the Stefan Trhal Agency out of Hannover engaged me for a five year “Tribute to the Unforgettable Nat King Cole” Tour which took me to all major cities throughout Germany.
Since 2004 I am vocal-coaching in and around Hamburg. From 2008 till 2010 I was vocal-coaching in Buxtehude at “Theater im Hinterhof” owned and under the direction of the late Nina Zober. Sometime later I became self-employed. I then went to “Powervoice” founder Andrés Balhorn to learn his Pop-/Rock singing technique and received a Cerificate.
At present time and since approximately over ten years I passionately sing with “Rainer Schnelle Trio feat. Melvin Edmondson”. This project is called “Jazz meets Soul”and has been said that it comes across to audiences as well as critics like “an act of kindness.”
Also, at present time I am giving two to three times a year a six week singing course in the Freizeitzentrum Schnelsen (FZS) and weekly as vocal-coach and choreographer for the female hobby singers “die Facetten” in Eidelstedter Bürgerhaus, Hamburg. Through exercising this duty I hope to give back a little of what I’ve learned in my life.
